ARAI Contour-X Proto Full-Face Helmet - Summer
3D conduit of the Arai logo
Immediately noticeable, the new 3D Arai logo duct (as thin as possible at 3,5 mm deep) feeds two central 10 mm intake ports. This is a first for an Arai, and it's entirely due to the strength of the PB-cLc2 and the shell construction. It also works very well at low speeds and with an upright riding position; at just 50 km/h, it channels an additional 40% of airflow, and at 120 km/h, a 7% increase. It can also be easily opened or closed, even with summer or winter gloves, via a short-throw lever on top; if the rider cannot see the lever and the logo is in its normal position, the duct is open. The Arai logo duct is designed to detach in the event of an impact.
Aerodynamic rear wing with integrated exhaust function, one-piece
The one-piece aerodynamic rear deflector/exhaust, operated by a 3-way switch, is inspired by the Corsair-X's DF-X2 but redesigned for touring use; however, it has been tested up to 300 km/h at Suzuka. It sits slightly further forward on the shell and is fed by three ports within the shell. As part of the Contour-X's comprehensive ventilation system, it efficiently draws in air but also regulates airflow over (and to the side of) the helmet, improving stability and reducing buffeting, especially during high-speed overtaking. The result is significantly less rider fatigue. As thin and light as possible, it is designed to crush or detach upon impact and therefore has no impact on protective performance.
Chin vent
Another new feature is the sliding chin vent with three positions (open, halfway, and closed), which increases the volume of air drawn in and has a replaceable filter. The operating mechanism is thicker and easier to use even with gloves.
Intercom housing
Designed to easily install and connect a communication system on the outside of the case, without compromising the protection offered by the inner EPS lining.
Outer shell: PB--cLc2 (complex layered construction with peripheral belt)
The Contour-X's outer shell design features a sleek, organic shape and utilizes PB-cLc2 for lightweight strength and integrated side channels. The AR-mat material has been replaced with a new material that reduces weight while maintaining strength. An additional layer of Super Fiber webbing maintains rigidity in a crucial area while providing flat sides for easy intercom system mounting.
Variable axis system (SAV)
With the SAV (Skirmish Air Ventilation), the visor mounting position is lowered, resulting in an average of 24 mm more clearance at both temples, aiming for a smoother, more streamlined shape that enhances energy ejection. Consequently, this allows a larger portion of the shell to be smoother along and above the Snell standard test line.
5mm wider opening
The exclusive shell widens by 5mm around the opening, making it easier to put on and take off the helmet (for newcomers to Arai, the initial feeling of 'tightness' when putting on or taking off the helmet can be a challenge).
Neck strap cable pocket
A small opening sewn inside the neckband allows the intercom system installer to easily tuck away any excess wiring that may remain after speaker installation. For a finished look and a clean, comfortable ride.
